ATTENDANCE POLICY:  A student who enrolls in Tech 0085 Vocational math class is expected to attend regularly and work all assignments weekly.  It is recognized, however, there may be situations that make it impossible to attend therefore you must contact me via email immediately. If you have more than four unexcused absences, it could result in a score of U in the class. To avoid this, work all weekly assignments, quizzes, and tests on time.  Be in class on time, 2 unexcused tardies = 1 unexcused absense.

Your MML homework assignments are designed to reinforce the concepts. All of your homework assignments are to be completed on the computer.  If you are confused or do not understand the problems worked in class, be certain to ask for help. Homework assignments and tests must be brought up to date immediately after an absence.

Your semester plan goes along with my MW campus classes.   Look at my class schedule posted on my website (MW 4 pm or 6 pm) (TR 8 am or 12 noon) because if you miss one of your regularly schedule classes then you can attend another one of my classes.

WITHDRAWAL FROM CLASS:   Midterm (Feb.28 2008—regular term) is the last day to drop a class and receive a W.  You MUST submit a Drop/Add form to the Records Office in order to officially drop a class or you will receive an automatic “U” grade for the course.  A “U” grade could cause you to lose your financial aid.    If you have a family or work emergency and cannot submit the Drop Form to the Records Office, call the Records Office at 229.248.2500.   Withdrawing after midterm results in a U grade unless you get the approval of your instructor AND the Vice President of Academic Affairs due to a non-academic extenuating circumstance.  Withdrawing from a class also may affect your financial aid; but a grade of “F” is even more detrimental to your financial aid and to your cumulative grade point average.  Always talk to your instructor before dropping a class.

PLAGIARISM/CLASS CONDUCT STATEMENT:  To plagiarize is to pass off as one’s own the ideas or words of another.  Copying material from another student will result in a zero for both students.  Pride in your work is what will make you a success in the work place.

Incomplete Grades:  An “I” will be assigned only to students who fail to complete a course due to illness, injury, or other non-academic emergency.  Only those students who were doing satisfactory work will be eligible for the “I” grade.  An “I” must be satisfactorily removed during the following academic semester or the symbol “I” will be changed to the grade “F” by the Records Office.  In unusual circumstances, an instructor may extend an incomplete beyond the one-semester deadline – not to exceed a total of three consecutive calendar semesters.  In order to remove an “I”, students WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO RE-REGISTER for the course.

Disability:  Any student who feels s/he may need an accommodation based on the impact of a disability should contact me privately to discuss your specific needs. Please contact the Office for Disability Services at [248-2579] _and ask for Jessica Long in the Testing Center to coordinate reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities.

Grading

1.     Tests Scores: You will have 4 major test scores. The score on each major grade for Chapter 1-whole numbers, Chapter 2-fraction, Chapter 3-decimal, and Chapter 4 &5 proportion/percent tests must be 75% or higher.  At the instructor’s discretion, retests may be permitted when a student falls below the required score on these units.  (Generally, retests are restricted to a maximum of one retest per unit test during the semester.) You must make arrangements with the instructor no later than the last day for testing date which can be found on the Semester Plan.

Practice Tests:  With each unit, you will have a Practice Quiz available.  This is not for a grade only for your benefit in preparing for a test.  By taking the Practice Quiz for each unit you will also reduce anxiety and will be better prepared.

2.     Daily Assignments

Ø       HOMEWORK: Use your Semester Plan to see dates on which assignments are due.  You must score 75% or higher on all homework assignments to be eligible for the Compass100% is the desired score for all students!  Most homework assignments are to be completed on the computer using MyMathLab -Course Compass.

Ø       WORK ETHICS:

You will have two (1) work ethic assignment.  Click on the Work Ethics button from the menu bar in MML for the detailed instructions on how to complete this assignment.

You must score 75% or higher on the assignment to be eligible for the Compass. The rubrics for grading (pg 4) will be explained in class.

You can take the quiz until you achieve the desired score. If you would like to work ahead please email me. Otherwise assignments and quizzes will come available each week.

  1.  EXITING THE COURSE:

When the above requirements (#1 & #2) are met by the end of the semester, the student is eligible for the Compass exam. To exit the course, a score of 37 or higher is required on the COMPASS exam. If the student earns the grade of S (Satisfactory), and the student advances to the next required mathematics course.  Otherwise, the student’s grade will be IP (In Progress) or U (Unsatisfactory), depending on the degree of progress.  With an IP or U grade, the course must be repeated.

The COMPASS is a standardized computer test prepared by a team of national educators.  Enough topics are included in the course content of TECH 0085 to

prepare the student to earn a satisfactory score.  The COMPASS Test includes some topics that are not included in the course content of TECH 0085. You are permitted to use a basic calculator on the test.

5.*Extra Credit*

a.100 % on every homework assignments in a unit will earn you 5 points on the corresponding chapter test. For example, if you make 100 on every homework assignment in chapter 2 then you will receive 5 points extra on your Fractions Test. Career planning is a very important part of your education at Bainbridge College.  Think about what type of career you want to pursue, and know the training, education, and skills it will require.  Ask yourself what you enjoy, what you are good at, and what your personality is.  Research careers you are interested in.  What does it pay?  What are the working conditions?  Is that job available in the area you plan to live?  What is its outlook for the future?

Check for dates of Career Planning Workshops in the Calendar/Upcoming Events section on the BC website, or look for announcements in the lobby of the Technical Studies Building.  Plan to attend a career planning workshop this semester!
