Croydon Plantation

Croydon Plantation

This plantation is located about 20 miles inland from Mobay. The roads are not real good, but the mountain scenery is beautiful. Along the way, we will pass through the villages of Bickersteth and Cambridge.

Croydon Estate offers us a triple opportunity:

  1. It is the birthplace of one of Jamaica’s national heroes – Samuel Sharpe, who was instrumental in the slave rebellion which led to the abolition of that institution;

  2. It provides a panoramic and breathtaking view of the Catadupa mountains; and

  3. We can learn about coffee, honey and pineapple cultivation – all in the same place – which is not that big by American standards: only 132 acres.

These are samples of the varieties of pineapples grown at Croydon Plantation.
