A short distance inside the site entrance is the pyramid known as "Iglesia" or the church. Its name came about because local people long ago saw a human body carved in relief on a stela (which has since eroded) and got it confused with the Christian Virgin Mary. This structure is the second tallest in the Coba complex- 24 meters (78 feet). It was built between 800 and 1100 AD.
