Shapes of Frequency Distributions

Frequency distributions often assume one of three shapes. The three most common shapes are symmetric, positively skewed or skewed right, and negatively skewed or skewed left.. Skewness refers to the side which has the long tail. In a symmetrical distribution the tails are the same length and the two halves of the graph are mirrow images of one another.
