Learning Objects

Learning Objects, or Reusable Learning Objects (RLO) as they are sometimes called, are simply digital instructional components that can be picked up and used over and over by different people.  The objects could be simple PowerPoint presentations, complex simulations, lesson plans, video clips, or any component created with a specific instructional goal in mind.  There may be an RLO already created by someone that is available for use in your course, and likewise, you can share your creations with others through these repositories.

Keep in mind that many textbook publishers provide learning objects, and sometimes complete online content, for use by instructors who require the purchase of their text. Check with your publisher to find out if such content is available to you.

The world of repositories is still very much under development.  Some repositories and some individual RLOs are more or less useful than others.  Our list of RLO repositories below is also a work in progress.  Please let us know if you find useful ones not listed here. Some of these have material for K12 as well as higher education.
