CREATING HYPER-POWERPOINT
1. Open the PowerPoint template from your disk.
2. Choose SLIDE VIEW.
3. Save presentation as Your_Name with an underscore between your names: Charlie_Strickland. DO NOT PUT SPACES IN ANY FILE NAMES, INCLUDING IMAGE NAMES.
4.
Type your questions in the text boxes. You need 5-7 questions. Move textboxes by dragging
with 4-sided arrow. You can change the font or color by clicking inside the boxes.
5. Use WORDART to make your presentation title and your byline. With WordArt, you can change the text color, line color, shadow shape, position, and color, and 3-D settings. MAKE SURE YOUR TITLE IS LEGIBLE. Click in the title box and name box to change the text and any other formatting.
6. If you want to change the color of the background of your slide, use FORMAT/Background. Do NOT use a canned background from PowerPoint.
7. The links are set up between slides, but if you need to change one, use SLIDESHOW/Action Settings. Each question is linked to the slide that should have the answer to the question. Each slide has a HOME button to go back to the title slide.
8. Go to the slide that links to question 1. (You can find it by hitting F5 and clicking on Question 1.)
9. Change the WordArt to the topic of the question instead of "Question 1 or 2 or whatever." Click on the Wordart to edit it.
10. You can find an image for the slide by going to google.com and entering the name of what you want. When the page of thumbnails opens, click on the image you want so it opens full-size. Then right-click on the image and choose copy, and you can directly paste the image into PowerPoint with CONTROL/V. You can also use clipart by choosing INSERT/IMAGE/Clipart. Resize if necessary by clicking on image and using double arrow in lower-right corner of image. Relocate by dragging image with 4-sided arrow.
11. Next, you'll answer your question by writing a paragraph. Make sure you write in YOUR OWN WORDS. Then make the title of the slide a hyperlink to the website where you found the information. To make the hyperlink, you'll copy the URL (Control/C) from the website after you click in the address bar. Next you'll click on the WordArt and hit CONTROL/K to open the hyperlink box, and then you'll PASTE the URL in the hyperlink box using Control/V.
To delete a link, select the link by clicking on it and go to INSERT/Hyperlink and click REMOVE LINK.
12. Now hit F5 and click on the links on both slides. If you've properly linked them, you will navigate to the appropriate slide and then back home again. Hit ESCAPE.
13. If you want to insert a SOUND FILE, it must be used alongside an
animation, such as APPEAR. Go to SLIDE SHOW/Custom Animation. Click on the
pulldown box for the animation and choose EFFECT OPTIONS and then SOUND and then OTHER SOUND. Navigate to your sound file.
Click OK. Choose whether the sound will play automatically or upon a mouse
click. Do NOT use indiscriminate sound
or animation.
14. Under SLIDE SHOW/Slide Transition, choose the same transition for the entire show.
16. If your file becomes too large for a floppy disk, you can save it on a USB drive or email it yourself as an attachment. You'll need to email the sound files as separate attachments.
SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR IMAGES & SOUND
